Saarinen Executive Arm Chairs in Moss Silk Mohair, Pair
Saarinen Executive Arm Chairs in Moss Silk Mohair, Pair
$5,000.00

At a Glance

Restoring Saarinen Executive Chairs, in all variations, has become a significant part of what we do. From time to time, we undertake a true one-of-one restoration when the right chair meets the right fabric. This pair is exactly that.

Silk mohair from Rogers & Goffigon elevates these early chairs, circa the 1950s, to an entirely new level. We have modernized this iconic silhouette by omitting all piping details. The walnut legs on each chair have been completely refinished to complement the Moss mohair upholstery.

Although more than 50 years old, these chairs have been thoughtfully elevated. Our goal is to spark inspiration and encourage experimentation. We invite you to reach out with your own ideas for a new expression of a Eero Saarinen Executive Chair.

Saarinen Executive Arm Chairs, Terracotta
Saarinen Executive Arm Chairs, Terracotta
$2,500.00

Eero Saarinen’s career, though brief, left an indelible mark on both furniture design and architecture. His work was visionary, bridging disciplines and redefining how design could harmonize with the human form. Among his many contributions, the Saarinen Executive Chair remains one of his most enduring and recognizable creations, celebrated for its sculptural beauty and everyday usability.

The Saarinen Executive Arm Chair is a quintessential piece of the Mid-Century Modern movement, known for its versatility and comfort. Its graceful curves invite the sitter to relax, while the subtle flexibility of the open back provides just the right amount of give. As with all of Saarinen’s work, the chair feels as much a sculpture as a functional object, elegant from every angle.

Our team selected an Italian bouclé in Ivory, a textured yet exceptionally soft fabric that highlights Saarinen’s sculptural curves. To further define the chair’s silhouette, we added piping in Italian leather and finished the hardware with a glossy Terracotta coat. Together, these details bring a 75-year-old design into a fresh and inviting light. The result is a timeless piece elevated by some of the finest materials.

The example shown in Terracotta represents just one of many possibilities. Each Saarinen Executive Chair is restored to order in our workshop and can be fully customized in any model of the design, including Arm, Armless, Metal Leg, Wood Leg, or Swivel Base. [OR332] Brno Flat-Bar Chairs in Original Parchment Wool, Set of 8 - Studio A.jpg
Sold
Brno Flat-Bar Chairs in Wool, Set of 8
$0.00

It is often said that modern design is timeless, and nowhere is this more evident than in the Brno Chair, one of the most iconic pieces of 20th-century furniture design. Created by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, a visionary often regarded as a founding father of Mid-Century Modernism, the Brno Chair embodies the Bauhaus principles from which it was born. With his unparalleled mastery of minimalism, Mies designed a chair so refined that it remains just as relevant nearly a century later.

This set of eight Brno Flat-Bar Chairs is an outstanding example of Mies’ vision. Acquired along with an entire suite of custom-order Knoll pieces from 1983, these chairs appear to have been rarely, if ever, used. They retain their original custom textured wool upholstery in ivory, a fabric that remains timeless and provides a striking complement to the sleek frames.

The frames are crafted from polished stainless steel, prized for both its warm tone and lasting durability. By contrast, most contemporary Knoll editions are produced in standard steel with chrome plating, while solid stainless steel frames are now available only through special order.

Overall, this set remains in exceptional condition, as if preserved from the year of manufacture. At once a functional seating solution and a collector’s treasure, these chairs exemplify Mies van der Rohe’s enduring contribution to modern design.

It is often said that modern design is timeless, this is unequivocally true with the Brno Chair, possibly one of the most iconic pieces of design in existence. Its designer, the great Ludwig Mies van der Rohe, could very well be known as one of the founding fathers of the Mid-Century Modern design movement. His work is deeply rooted in the Bauhaus from which this chair came to be. Only Mies van der Rohe, with his sage-like mastery of minimalism, could have consistently produced work still relevant nearly 100 years later.

This set of four Brno Flat-Bar Chairs retain their original leather upholstery in the color Ivory. They also feature upholstered arm pads which is a feature only available by special order. As these are contemporary iteration Brno Chairs, their frames are crafted from steel which are chrome plated and finished with a mirror polish. Each chair is incised under their right arms with KnollStudio accompanied by Mies van der Rohe’s signature. Thonet B9 Dining Chairs, Set of 4
Sold
Thonet B9 Dining Chairs, Set of 4
$0.00

Thonet's significance as a furniture manufacturer lies in its pioneering use of bentwood technology, revolutionizing furniture design in the 19th century. The company's innovative bentwood technique allowed for mass production of stylish and durable furniture pieces. in 1861, Michael Thonet would found his Bystřice pod Hostýnem factory in the country formerly known as Czechoslovakia. It was there that countless notable Thonet bentwood designs were manufactured in-mass, including these famed B9 dining chairs, which exhibit “Made in Czechoslovakia” markings.

The B9 dining chair is not just celebrated for its timelessness and everlasting appeal. It would also come to be known as the “Corbusier Chair” as the renown French architect Le Corbusier considered their international ubiquity as nobility. The sleek bentwood and lightweight design characterized by its curved backrest and gracefully curved legs are only elements which Thonet could produce in their time. The chair’s elegance paired with the excitement of Le Corbusier have enshrined the B9 design in history and protected its relevance, thus today it is considered timeless.

This shown set of four Thonet dining chairs are c. 1960 and remain in their original condition. While showing minor wear consistent with age and history, we find this patina to only add to the chairs’ elegance.

[OR230] Gilbert Rohde Paldao Dining Chairs in Sand Mohair, Set of 6 - Square.png
Sold
Gilbert Rohde Dining Chairs, Set of 6
$0.00

Gilbert Rohde’s work for Herman Miller transcended the divide of surrealist art and home furnishings. A native New Yorker, Rohde studied art after his secondary education at Stuyvesant High School. His education in the arts served as a foundation for his later work in furniture. Frequent trips to Europe in the 1920’s introduced Rohde to the then-popular design movements such as the Bauhaus School, Streamline Art-Deco, and most importantly Surrealism. Rohde was one of the first to pair modern day materials with extravagant exotic woods such as Filipino Paldao, for which his most notable collection “The Paldao Group” for Herman Miller was named. We acquired these elegant dining chairs along with several other Paldao pieces from their original owner.

Each of these Paldao Dining Chairs have been thoroughly restored by our team. New upholstery was executed which includes new fabric as well new foam interiors. We selected a handsome Angora Mohair in the color Sand which nicely complements the newly refinished walnut frames. All restoration was conducted in line with Rohde’s original design intentions; delicate and timeless. This Rohde design is particularly hard to find and we think these chairs are the epitome of the design bridge from Art-Deco to Mid-Century Modern. The set is a perfect match to the rest of our Paldao Collection of pieces comprising of a Sideboard, Cabinet, and Dining Table. They are also of course elegant in their own right and would be perfect additions to any inspired home.
